Title: The World is Flat
Author: Thomas Friedman

This is a very interesting book giving a world view on how gobalization, technology, free trade, outsourcing, etc. is changing how we do business and how we operate as a society. It has me wondering what life will be like for our kids in 10, 20, or 30 years.

The Invention of Everything Else by Samantha Hunt is an intriguing book. Nikola Tesla, dreams, time travel, electricity, what might have been, facts and fiction - all woven together with Hunt's very beautiful writing. It's thought-provoking but easy and fun to read.

Title: The Joy of Knitting:Texture, Color, Design and the Global Knitting Circle
Author: Lisa R. Myers

"First of all . . . in case you have any doubts: knitting is wonderful. It is good for the soul . . . It can make you deeply happy." If you are a beginner or an expert you'll enjoy this book. There are patterns at the end of each chapter from simple to advanced. If you have any interest in knitting come to the library's group - 2nd Friday of the monh at 7:00 PM.

The Galway Library does not own this book - but if it sounds interesting to you, we’d be happy to order it through interlibrary loan!

Title: What Once We Loved
Author: Jane Kirkpatrick

The author is a wonderful writer intertwining many "mini" stories together. The story helps understand the hardships in the West with Indians and Chinese, and also just what people endured and lived.

The Galway Library does not own this book - but if it sounds interesting to you, we'd be happy to order it through interlibrary loan!

The Wild Twist of Their Stems is by Carol Graser, poet, Story Quilt committee member, and host of Caffe Lena's monthly poetry readings. The focus of her book is on motherhood, with poems reaching out into wider issues as well. They are moving, and humorous, and thoughtful, and a joy to read.

Flower Confidential by Amy Stewart tells where those bouquets come from, why roses no longer smell, and who's trying to grow a blue rose. The way she writes kept me reading, even though I didn't think I wanted to know this much about the florist industry. She's filled the book with descriptions of some very interesting characters, which I think is its strong point.
